After-Hours Care

How do you access care when the Whitworth Health Center is closed?

  • If the situation is a major (life-threatening) emergency, call 911 regardless of the time of day.
For after-hours care due to illness or minor emergency, we recommend the following:
  • Visit the health advocate in your dorm (click here for contact information).

  • Rockwood North Urgent Care (located at N. 9001 Country Homes Blvd.) for minor-emergency care. It is a walk-in clinic, open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The phone number for Rockwood North Urgent Care is 509-744-1710.

  • If Rockwood Clinic North is closed or if you choose to go directly to the emergency room, we recommend that you go to Holy Family E.R., one block east of Division behind the Franklin Park Mall. Heading south from Whitworth, turn left on Central and right on Lidgerwood. Signs are posted, and the emergency room is open 24 hours a day.

Be sure to have your insurance card(s) with you. Some insurance companies require preauthorization for non-life-threatening situations; read your primary insurance card carefully and call your company in advance, if you are required to do so.

If you have been involved in an accident, remember that full-time undergraduates, international students, and MIT students are enrolled in a mandatory accident insurance policy through Whitworth; you must complete a claim form for payment. Be sure to contact Jan Bynagle at the health center (509.777.4550) within 24 hours of the accident to request the claim form and instructions. Students with the Hard Waiver Supplemental Sickness and Accident Policy through Whitworth must also complete and submit a claim form.
