Then & Now

Bev (Holmes, '49) and Nick Faber, '50, first met in choir. Nick was also on the football team, and the two were first photographed wooing at the Whitworth Tree in 1948. Both turn 80 this year, and they have kept close ties to Whitworth since graduating. In fact, four Faber children attended Whitworth, and Nick taught in the education department from 1972 to 1990 and now serves on the Crimson Club board. The couple contributes to the university in order to give other Whitworthians the opportunity to receive a mind-and-heart education like theirs – and to make sure that the campus arborist pays special attention to the Whitworth Tree.
