"Parents are a big part of the Whitworth community"

From the moment Lukas was accepted to Whitworth three years ago, I've been blown away by all the little things that make up the mind-and-heart experience, not only for my son, but also for me as a parent. From the calendars to the handbooks to the e-mails, I have felt as much a part of the Whitworth community as anyone on campus.

More important, I've seen big, positive changes in Lukas since coming to Whitworth - his confidence in himself as a human being and his vision for the future have grown. I've had the opportunity to visit with some of Lukas' professors, and I know they have a passion to see their students succeed. They challenge ideas, norms and stereotypes - it's what "liberal arts" is all about. There's just something about Whitworth - I feel so good that Lukas is here, and I know he feels the same way.

Paying for a Whitworth education is not easy. Each year, though, Lukas has received the scholarships and financial aid necessary to keep him at this place that he loves. That's why I know that when I give a little extra each year, it is helping other students like Lukas, as well as their families. No matter how much I am able to give, my support, combined with others', to The Whitworth Fund is maintaining all those little things about Whitworth that I have appreciated in the education of my son.

Thank you for joining me in helping to make Whitworth more affordable for students and their families; your help allows students like Lukas to thrive as they pursue a mind-and-heart education.

Collectively, gifts from parents raised more than $200,000 for
The Whitworth Fund
- a remarkable 15 percent of the overall Whitworth Fund goal last year. The majority of those gifts directly benefitted the scholarships of these parents' sons and daughters through The Parents' Fund, an offshoot of the annual fund.
