Academic Probation & Suspension - Continuing Studies

Academic Probation: During a 12-week period of an accelerated-format term during which a student is registered for 6 or more credits (whether or not those credits are completed) and in which the student has a GPA below 2.0, the student will be placed on academic probation. A student who is on probation may not register for more than 4 courses or 12 semester credits in the subsequent accelerated-format term.

Exception: If the student previously attended Whitworth and has a GPA below 2.0 upon re-admission through continuing studies, an exception to the 6-credit rule can be made by the academic advisor.

Academic Suspension: At the end of a 24-week period in which the student is registered for 12 credits (whether or not 12 credits are completed) and the GPA during that 12-credit time span is below 2.0, the student will be on academic suspension.

Appeal Process: The student may appeal to the ERB through the Whitworth Office of Academic Affairs to be considered for reinstatement after any semester or session during which s/he has been suspended. The appeal must be submitted to the academic-affairs office in writing.
