Whitworth Educational Support Services

Whitworth is committed to providing educational support and resources that will enhance students' success while they pursue their education. The Whitworth Office of Educational Support Services (ESS) works with students on an individual basis to determine the level of support needed. Our goal is to serve all students and assist each in becoming an integral part of the campus community.

Resources Available to Students

  • Admission assistance
  • Academic planning
  • Career exploration
  • Individual counseling
  • Assistance with disability issues
  • Tutoring/study-skills assistance
  • Financial aid
  • Community resources

ESS provides access services to Whitworth's programs, services, activities, and facilities for qualified students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Washington state laws. ESS may arrange or provide academic adjustments, reasonable academic accommodations, auxiliary aids, assistive technology, advocacy and other types of assistance for students with disabilities.

In order for students to receive reasonable accommodations, each student is responsible for requesting accommodations and for providing the appropriate documentation specifying the nature and extent of the disability and recommendations for accommodations to ESS. To ensure coordination of services, students should contact ESS at least six weeks prior to the semester for which they are requesting services. The ESS office is located in the Hixson Union Building (HUB), Whitworth Career Services Office, Room 244.

The coordinator of educational support services will conduct an initial interview with each student, have him/her sign the appropriate release forms and provide the student with policy information on his/her responsibilities for receiving accommodations. Specific guidelines for verifying a disability are as follows:

Students must consult with the ESS coordinator each semester regarding their class schedules, timelines, and the process for securing agreed-upon services.

If you have questions regarding requests for services, please contact the ESS office at 509.777.4534 or e-mail apyrc@whitworth.edu.
