Shalom Community Center
The Shalom Community Center (SCC) program was started in fall 2008, when Whitworth purchased and renovated the Cornerstone property and transformed the building into a multi-discipline living/learning community, administrative offices, a dance studio, and banquet rooms. After two years in the building, the Shalom Community Center moved to Putney House, a university-owned house. The facility houses up to 9 students, sophomore-through-senior class, who apply to live in the fully furnished home.
The SCC’s students play a pivotal role in shaping the daily life of the community while two ministry interns help coordinate the program. The mission of the SCC is to seek shalom (peace, wholeness) within relationships: relationship with God, self, others, and creation. This is lived out through sharing a weekly meal along with various activities throughout the semester.
Application guidelines for living in the house are found here.
