What to Bring to Whitworth
We're glad you will be a part of our community. Following are lists
of items you'll need to bring to Whitworth along with items you may want to bring
with you when you arrive on campus. Additionally, please read What's
Provided for information about what is already in your room and What
Not to Bring, which details items not allowed in the residence halls.
Items you will need to bring:
- Pillow, pillowcase, and extra-long bed linens in all buildings (except in some Village beds)
- Bathroom towels
- Hand-soap and shampoo
- Shower caddy
- Wastebasket
- Iron and ironing board
- Laundry soap
- Laundry basket
- Cooking utensils
- Clothes hangers
- Flashlight in case of a power outage. (Use of candles is not permitted
in the residence halls.)
- Surge protectors/power strips. (The university strongly discourages students
from using extension cords of any gauge, but if used should be at least 14 gauge or thicker)
- Sticky-tac/Plasti-tac, pushpins, or blue masking tape (painter's tape)
for hanging items on the walls and ceiling, but not on any wooden or
wallpapered surface. (Nails and screws of any size, foam tape or mounting
squares, Scotch tape, masking tape, electrical tape, duct tape, filament
tape, packaging tape, double-sided tape, hot glue, plastic stars, stickers
with adhesive, and staples are not allowed for use on the walls, ceilings,
floors, or any university-owned furniture.)
Items you may want to bring:
- Small microwave
- Small refrigerator. (Limited rentals available from ASWU at the Welcome Fair at the beginning of the year.)
- Additional lighting. (Halogens are not allowed due to fire danger.)
- Coffeepot
- TV and VCR or DVD player
- Personal computer and ethernet cable, approx 25 feet. (Each resident has free access to e-mail
and Internet services.)
- Small box, floor, or table fan
- Area rug or carpet (View the floor plans for your building.)
- U-Lock for your bicycle (a chain or cable lock are good but not good enough)
- Answering machine (if you do not have a cell phone)
