Ramsay, Flett Lead All-NWC Selections

SPOKANE, Wash. - Dan Ramsay and Chad Flett, a pair of first year players in the Whitworth baseball program, were named Second Team All-Northwest Conference yesterday. Five other Pirate players were chosen as honorable mention selections to the team.

Ramsay (So., C, Spokane, Wash. - Mead/Gonzaga Univ.) batted .278 and led the Pirates with 31 runs batted in. He had ten doubles and one home run. Defensively, Ramsay threw out nearly 40% of the base runners attempting to steal against him.

Flett (Jr., RHP, Spokane, Wash. - Mead/CC of Spokane) finished 5-3 with a 4.43 earned run average. He had four complete games and also earned one save. His strikeout (48) to walk (10) ratio was nearly 5 to 1.

Five Pirate seniors were selected to the honorable mention list. They were Joel Tampien (1B, Moses Lake, Wash. - Moses Lake Christian), Ryne Webb (SS, Spokane, Wash. - Shadle Park/CC of Spokane), J.J. Jones (OF, Moses Lake, Wash. - Day Star Christian), Van Lierman (OF, Bothell, Wash. - Bothell) and Brandon Zimmerman (RHP, Spokane, Wash. - Shadle Park/CC of Spokane).

Tampien batted .285 and led the Pirates with six home runs. Webb batted .300 and led the team with 11 doubles. Jones, in his first year of baseball since high school, batted .291. Lierman led the Pirates with 29 runs scored and 10 stolen bases while batting .271. Zimmerman finished the year with a 3-7 record, with four complete games and a 5.13 ERA.

Whitworth finished 2007 with a 14-25 record, 9-15 (tied for sixth) in the NWC.
