LEWISTON, Idaho - Whitworth University dropped both games on Sunday in the hastily arranged round-robin tournament at Lewis-Clark State College. The Pirates lost 15-6 to College of Idaho in the opener and 10-2 to the host Warriors in the finale.

The three-team event was arranged only last Thursday after Whitworth's originally sheduled four game series at College of Idaho was scrapped by weather.

In the opener against College of Idaho, the teams combined for 15 errors (seven by Whitworth) in a 15-6 win for the Coyotes. The Pirates pulled within 8-6 with a five run inning in the bottom of the seventh, but C of I scored five in the eighth and two more in the ninth to pull away. Jon Whiteside went 2 for 5 with two runs batted in to lead Whitworth. Michael Cozad started on the mound and allowed five runs on five hits in 4.2 innings. But only three of the runs were earned.

Whitworth, which upset LCSC 6-5 on Saturday, kept the game close against the Warriors most of the way on Sunday. It was a 3-2 game until LCSC erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning. Collin Gibbs pitched well as the starter for the Pirates, allowing only three runs on four hits in five innings. Whitworth was held to only four hits in the game. Mitch Ramsey and Chad Flett had the Bucs' only two RBIs, while Mac Collette had two of the hits.

Whitworth will return to Lewiston next weekend. In addition to a game against LCSC, the Pirates will play Mayville State on Saturday afternoon.
