Lewis-Clark State Shuts Out Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. - Lewis-Clark State College hit six home runs and limited Whitworth University to a pair of base hits on Thursday afternoon at Merkel Field as the visiting Warriors shut out the Pirates 14-0. LCSC, ranked 2nd in the NAIA, improved to 37-4, while the Bucs fell to 11-25 in their final home game of 2008.

Kyle Greene hit his team leading 16th home run of the season in the first inning to get the Warriors on the board. Brian Ward led off the top of the second with his fifth of the year.

A quartet of LCSC players hit their first home runs of the season: Josh Ashenbrenner, a three run shot in the fourth inning; Chris Valencia, immediately following in the fourth; Bret Spencer in the seventh and Mickey Pingree in the eighth.

Matt Fitts allowed two hits over seven innings to improve to 8-0 on the mound for the Warriors.

Whitworth's Chad Flett started on the mound and allowed 12 runs on 13 hits over the first four innings. Jason Weatherman pitched well in relief for the Pirates, giving up one run on three hits in three innings.

Jon Whiteside and Mitch Ramsey had Whitworth's only hits in the game.

The Pirates will finish out the 2008 season on April 26th and 27th with a four-game Northwest Conference series at Whitman College in Walla Walla.
