LEWISTON, Idaho - Whitworth kept the powerful bats of Lewis-Clark State College in check for six innings, but the 10th-ranked (NAIA) Warriors broke away late in the game for a 16-0 win over the Pirates in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening at Harris Field. Rotating pitchers every two innings, Whitworth (4-15) stayed within 2-0 through six innings. But LCSC (13-6) scored eight times in the seventh inning to break the game open. The Warriors then added six more (five unearned) in the eighth. Whitworth managed five hits against LCSC starter Michael Guerrero, who went six innings to improve to 3-0, but did not gain a hit over the final three innings. The Pirates will return to Northwest Conference play with a four-game series at Willamette on Saturday and Sunday. |
