THE DALLES, Ore. - (From Pacific Sports Information Office) Pacific benefited from a pair of complete-game pitching performances and a stiff wind over the outfield walls to sweep a pair of games from Whitworth Sunday in Northwest Conference baseball action the Quinton Street Ballpark. Tyler Fransen threw a two-hitter and faced just three hitters over the minimum in the opener as the Boxers rode a three-run third inning to a 5-0 shutout. In the nightcap, Blaine Knuth earned the complete game win as the Boxers hit three wind aided home runs to score a 14-5 win. The victories lift Pacific to 5-10 overall, 2-8 NWC, while Whitworth fell to 3-11, 1-8 NWC. The twinbill, originally scheduled to be played in Forest Grove, was moved to The Dalles due to rain and unplayable field conditions. GAME 1: Pacific 5, Whitworth 0 - Complete box score Fransen was squarely in control from the first pitch, scattering just two hits and striking out eight to improve to 3-1 on the season. He retired the final 11 batters in order. The Pacific offense, meanwhile, did their part at the plate. Kyle Barksdale scored one in the second when his single plated Nick McNeely. The Boxers added three in the third without the aid of a hit. Joey Pulito scored when Keith Anderson was hit by a pitch, Jereamy Probert scored on a fielder's choice and Kaeo Lau Hee scored on a balk. The Boxers added their other run in the fifth when Corby Makin's sacrifice fly scored Kevin Schwartz. Peter Birdwell took the loss for Whitworth, dropping to 1-3 on the year. He allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits and four walks with six strikeouts in six innings. GAME 2: Pacific 14, Whitworth 5 - Complete box score Pacific scored early and often in game two, putting runs up in every inning except for the sixth. Pacific scored one in the first on a bases loaded walk, which the Pirates took back in the second on double by Andrew Durant. Lau Hee put Pacific ahead 4-1 in the second with a three-run homer to left center field. The Pirates added one in the third on a fielder's choice while the Boxers added one of their own in the home half of the frame on a sacrifice fly. Pacific put three more on the board in the fourth when Nate Rasmussen, McNeely and Makin clubbed back-to-back-to-back home runs to left center field, all of which were helped out of the park by a very stiff wind. The Pirates got some wind benefit in the fifth when Mitch Ramsay crushed a two-run homer to the same spot in the fifth, which bounced off a road behind the fence and rolled up and over the roof of a nearby house. The Boxers added two in the fifth, two in the eighth and two in the ninth inning. Whitworth scored their only other run in the sixth.
