SPOKANE, Wash. -- Known for her determination and dedication on the basketball floor, forward Cassie Pilkinton has also been recognized by regional college sports information directors for excellence in the classroom and has been named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division women's basketball team (Second Team).

The Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing.

Pilkinton (Sr., Chelan, Wash. / Chelan, NIC) is an elementary education major with a grade point average of 3.79. She earned the academic recognition in her first year of eligibility after transferring from North Idaho College, where she studied and played for two years. She leads the Pirates in scoring (12.2 points per game) and rebounding (5.7 boards per game) and was a Second Team All-Northwest Conference honoree last season.

Whitworth is now 10-9 overall and 6-4 in the NWC, tied for third place in the conference standings.
