GAME
1 Lewis & Clark (2-1) never led in the second half and trailed by as many as 12 points (57-45), but nearly made up a six point deficit in the final 55 seconds. Concordia (4-1) was only 6 of 13 from the free throw line in the second half, allowing L&C to stay in the game and make its late run. Concordia's Levi Luster scored 13 points off of the bench to lead four Eagles in double figures. Adam Greenway and Kyle Huggert each scored 11 and Joe Roberson posted a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Pioneers' David Berggren led all players with 22 points, including five three pointers. Robinowitz and Thomas Tillery scored 16 points. Lewis & Clark plays Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) on Thursday at 12:30 pm, while Concordia takes on George Fox (Ore.) on Thursday at 3:00 pm. GAME 2 The Pirates (3-0) outscored the Vikings (1-2) 39-18 in the first period, holding BLC to 28.6% shooting and forcing 16 turnovers with an active zone defense. The Vikings were able to make adjustments at halftime, but the closest they could get was the 12-point final score difference. Alfonso Mayfield's first half free throw made the score 14-13 with 11:03 left. The next time Bethany scored the Pirates had reeled off 18 straight points for a 32-13 lead. Whitworth's James Jones had six straight points in the run. Jones finished with a game-high 18 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Pirates, while Ryan Symes added 17 points. Kevin Hasenfus and Bryan Williams totaled 10 points apiece and Williams dished 10 assists. Mayfield scored 14 points, the only Viking player to reach double figures. Ross Libby chipped in with eight points and Jeff Zimmerman led with five rebounds off of the bench. Bethany Lutheran, one of two teams playing three games in the seven-team classic, will play Lewis & Clark (Ore.) on Thursday at 12:30 pm. Whitworth will take on California Lutheran and 10:00 am. GAME 3 The winning Kingsmen (2-0) held off a furious rally by the Crusaders (2-1) late in the second half. After taking a 37-28 halftime lead, Cal Lutheran opened up a 53-34 advantage early in the second half on Brandon Bush's layup. But Alvernia got within 59-53 on a three pointer by Zach Westmoreland with just over nine minutes to play. The Crusaders had a chance to tie the game with 51 seconds left, but Ryan Finger made one of two free throws and CLU clung to a 68-67 edge. With 14 seconds left CLU post Zach Miller was fouled making an offensive rebound and he made one of two shots. Alvernia's last chance to score ended when Terrence Shawell lost the ball out of bounds with five seconds left. Miller led all players with 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Kingsmen. Acerboni finished with 17 and Bush chipped in 12 points. Finger tallied 18 points and Garrett Etzel scored 17 for the Crusaders. Tyrone Bradley had 10 points and seven rebounds. Cal Lutheran will play again on Thursday morning, taking on host Whitworth at 10:00 am. Alvernia has a day off before playing George Fox (Ore.) at 12:30 pm on Friday.
