Bridgewater St. Ends Whitworth Win Streak
Dec. 30, 2007

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Bridgewater State College hit 8 of 14 three point attempts on the way to an 88-75 win over Whitworth University in the championship game of the CSI Tournament of Heroes on Sunday afternoon.

Bridgewater St. (Mass.) used a 13-1 run midway through the first half to turn an 18-13 deficit into a 26-19 lead. The Pirates would never lead again. BSC led 42-34 at halftime and by as many as 21 points (70-49) midway through the second half.

The hot shooting by BSC overcame a double-double by Whitworth's Colin Willemsen (Sr., F, Moraga, Calif.), who finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. Ryan Symes (Sr., F, Palo Alto, Calif.) led the Pirates (6-2) with 18 points. The Bucs saw a six-game winning streak come to an end.

Roland Millien had a game-high 23 points for Bridgewater St. (4-6).

The Tournament of Heroes is six years old and honors three former College of Staten Island players who lost their lives in the events of September 11, 2001.

Whitworth will open Northwest Conference play next weekend at Linfield College (Friday at 8:00 p.m.) and at Willamette University (Saturday at 6:00 p.m.). Both game can be heard live on KSBN 1230 am and KSBN.net.

The Pirates are opening the 2007-08 season with ten consecutive road games.
