SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth College shattered a school record by making 18 three point shots on the way to a 78-56 win over visiting Montana Tech in a non-conference women's basketball game on Sunday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

Holly Ridings and older sister Amy Ridings, both of Shadle Park High School in Spokane, each made five three pointers for the Bucs, whose previous team record was 13 set against Pacific University in 1995. Holly finished with game highs of 18 point, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals, while Amy's total of 15 points all came in the second half. Whitworth was 11 of 15 in the second half alone, finishing 18 of 31 (58.1%) from beyond the arc. Alida Bower added 13 points, including three three pointers, while Emily Hendrickson sank a pair of treys and finished with 12 points. Teresa Zeitler also made two and scored 10 points.

Marcie Alzheimer scored 12 points and shared game high honors with nine rebounds to lead Montana Tech. Kyle Cook added ten points for the Orediggers. As hot as Whitworth was from long distance, Montana Tech was cold, making only 2 of 22 three point attempts. Whitworth also forced 27 Oredigger turnovers.

Whitworth led by as many as 13 points in the first half (34-21), before Tech pulled within 36-27 on a lay up by Alzheimer with 25 seconds to play.

Whitworth quickly stretched the lead out to 17 points (46-29) early in the second half after a jumper by Zeitler, and eventually led by as many as 31 points (78-47) with just under two minutes to play.

Whitworth returns to action next weekend when the Pirates travel to California to take on Chapman University (Saturday) and Whittier College (Sunday) in a pair of NCAA Division III west region contests.
