Albertson Forces Two Dozen Pirate Turnovers

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Albertson College forced 24 Whitworth turnovers and scored 22 points at the free throw line to defeat the Pirates 83-66 in non-conference women's college basketball action on the second day EOU Aramark Holiday Classic.

The Coyotes took control of the game with a 12-0 run in the first half that included three straight Whitworth turnovers. The scoring streak gave Albertson a 27-15 lead. The Coyotes' biggest lead of the game was 63-38 with 12:50 to play in the game.

The Pirates (5-2) dropped their second straight game after opening the season with five straight wins. Albertson improved to 5-5.

Alida Bower led Whitworth with 16 points, while Tiffany Corigliano came off of the bench for 14 points. Corigliano was the Pirates' leading scorer this weekend with 27 total points. Susan McDaniel posted her third double double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Denise Hill had 17 points and nine rebounds and Whitney Clark added 16 to lead the Coyotes. The pair were a combined 11 of 12 from the free throw line, where Albertson made 22 of 28 shots as a team.

The Pirates return home next weekend to host the Whit Holiday Classic I, featuring Dominican and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps from California. Whitman will also participate.
