Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 46 In a second half that featured seven ties and five lead changes over the first 15 minutes, the Missionaries gained control by turning a 39-39 tie into a 45-39 lead with 2:41 to play. Whitman held the Athenas scores over a four minute stretch during the run. C-M-S nearly got all of the deficit back in one play when Jocelyn Woolsey was fouled going to the basket and Whitman coach Michelle Ferenz was called for a technical with 2:06 left in the game. Woolsey made three of four free throws, then after getting a defensive stop, Woolsey made a pull up jumper with 1:26 to play to pull the Athenas within 45-44. But Whitman made all four of its free throw attempts in the final 1:15, two each by Emily Shubin and Katie Patneaude, to hold onto the win. Patneaude scored 13 points and dished four assists for the Missionaries, while Shubin came off of the bench for nine points and eight rebounds. Whitman had a 37-26 rebounding advantage over C-M-S, including a 14-5 edge in offensive rebounds. Woolsey and Johnelle Parsons each scored 13 points for the Athenas, while Lana Young added 10 points. Whitman goes into holiday break with a record of 4-4, while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps has a record of 3-4. Whitworth 64, Dominican 60 Natalie Orrell made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds to play for the Pirates, who trailed the Penguins 45-36 with just over 13 minutes to play in the game. But Whitworth then went on a 14-2 run to take a 50-47 lead with 7:34 to play. Dominican grabbed its last lead of the game when Kate Elles hit a lay up to put the Penguins back up 51-50. Whitworth answered with baskets by Leah Pomante and Alida Bower to go back up by three and the Pirates never gave up the lead again. Dominican also took a big first half lead when Alicia Flaaten nailed a three pointer to give the Penguins a 22-14 edge with just under ten minutes to go in the period. But Whitworth outscored Dominican 19-7 over the next nine minutes to take a 33-29 lead. Alida Bower hit three three-pointers during the run. Lola Browne's jumper just before the buzzer pulled the Penguins within 33-31 at halftime. Dominican opened the second half with a 14-3 run to take its biggest lead of the game and setting up Whitworth's eventual comeback. Browne scored 21 points for the Penguins to lead all players in scoring. She also had team highs in rebounds (7) and assists (4). Chardonnay Nelson came off of the bench to add nine points for Dominican. Bower scored 14, while Susan McDaniel and Cassie Snyder each scored 10 points for the Pirates. Bower, McDaniel and Tiffany Corigliano off of the bench each grabbed eight rebounds. Whitworth heads into a two-week holiday break with a record of 7-2, while Dominican returns to California with a record of 7-7.
