SPOKANE, Wash. - Sheena Henderson scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead visiting Eastern Oregon University to a 69-64 non-conference women's basketball win over Whitworth University on Friday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
Henderson had 10 points and 10 boards after halftime to help the Mountaineers (7-0, #22 in NAIA DII) overcome a six-point halftime deficit. Tiffanie Ulmer came off of the bench to add 18 points and Jenny Fiso scored 14 as a substitute for EOU. Natalie Orrell scored a game high 20 points to lead the Pirates (4-3), who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Alida Bower had 17 points off of the bench and Tiffany Corigliano scored 11 points. The game was decided over the first fifteen and a half minutes of the second period. After Whitworth shot 47% in the first half and made 6/14 three pointers, the Pirates could only score four points over the first 15 minutes of the second half and were 1 of 13 from the field during that span. EOU turned a 43-37 halftime deficit into a 61-47 lead by outscoring Whitworth 24-4 during the stretch. The Bucs did manage to get back within 61-55 after a put back by Corigliano with 3:36 to play, but Elise Hawes answered for the Mountaineers with a layup and three pointer to extend the advantage back to 66-55 with 1:35 to play. Whitworth will now be off until late December when the Pirates head to Montana for games at Montana Tech on December 29th and Great Falls on December 30th.
