SPOKANE, Wash. - Katy Campbell scored 14 points to lead visiting George Fox University to a 65-49 win over Whitworth University in a Northwest Conference women's basketball game on Saturday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
Campbell scored 12 of her points after halftime to lead the 14th-ranked Bruins (16-1 overall, 8-0 NWC) in scoring. Kaleigha Ramey posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while post Melissa Marek-Farris added 10 points and eight rebounds. Liz Horiatis (Fr., P, Woodinville, Wash.) scored inside to give Whitworth a 10-9 lead just over six minutes into the game. It would be the final lead of the night for the Pirates (9-8, 4-4). Tiffany Behary and MaryAnne Samples followed with back-to-back three-pointers to give GFU a 15-10 advantage. The Bruins eventually took a 34-25 lead at halftime. Whitworth made two runs at George Fox in the second half. Alida Bower's (Jr., F, Onalaska, Wash.) three-pointer pulled the Pirates within 38-36 six minutes into the period. But the Bruins extended the lead back to 46-36 after a jumper by Campbell. Whitworth scored the next six points to pull within 46-42 with 6:23 to go. But George Fox outscored Whitworth 19-7 the rest of the way to win comfortably. Bower led Whitworth with 12 points, while Horiatis came off of the bench for nine points. The Bruins, who tied a school record with their 11th straight victory, made 50% of their shots from the field, and 43% (6 of 14) from three-point range. GFU outrebounded Whitworth 35-26 while holding the Pirates to 36% shooting from the floor. Whitworth will return to action next weekend, hosting Linfield and Willamette on Friday and Saturday in the Fieldhouse.
