Pirates Finish Non-League on High Note

GREAT Falls, Mont. - Whitworth University concluded its non-conference women's basketball schedule on a high note Sunday evening, winning 83-73 at University of Great Falls to sweep the season series against the Argonauts.

Molly Schlander (Jr., G, Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored a career-high 16 points off of the bench to lead the Pirates (5-4). Natalie Orrell (Jr., F, Wenatchee, Wash.) added 15 points and Tiffany Corigliano (Jr., P, Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Leah Pomante (So., G, Colbert, Wash.) added a career-high six assists.

Whitworth never trailed against Great Falls (7-7) and led by 20 (44-24) in the first half before taking a 44-29 halftime lead. Whitworth led by 19 again in the second half before the Argonauts rallied to within 64-58 with just over seven minutes to play.

But the Pirates scored the next eight points to retake control.

Whitworth's pressing defense forced 24 Great Falls turnovers.

The Pirates will open Northwest Conference play next weekend at Linfield College (Friday) and Willamette University (Saturday).
