Whitworth Runs Hard at Bigfoot Open

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Whitworth University cross country teams each placed third in the final standings on Saturday at the Runners Soul Bigfoot Open, hosted by the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Nick Gallagher and Dusty Caseria finished in fifth place (25:39) and seventh place (25:52), respectively, on the 8 kilometer course to lead the Pirate men. Travis Huskisson took 17th place in 26:50, while Jacob Deitz (19th place, 26:53) and Collin Stewart (20th place, 27:02) rounded out the Whitworth scoring.

The final men's team scores were: CC of Spokane 21, Lewis-Clark State 48, Whitworth 68, Whitman 126, Carroll 156, Bigfoot XC Club 168, Great Falls 195.

The men's winner was Dak Riek of CCS in a time of 25:01.

The final women's team scores were: Whitman 49, Lewis-Clark State 65, Whitworth 72, CC of Spokane 94, Great Falls 133, Bigfoot XC Club 141, Carroll 168, Rocky Mountain 228.

Jo E Mayer led the women with a 7th place finish, running the 5 kilometer course in 18:44. Sara Wrightman followed in 10th place with a time of 18:56. Emily Morehouse and Kaitlin Hildebrand finished in 16th (19:15) and 17th (19:16) places, respectively. Shannon Newth completed the Pirate scoring in 22nd place (19:23).

The women's winner was Jenny Jensen of LCSC with a time of 18:28.

Whitworth will send a group of runners to compete next weekend at the Lewis-Clark State Invitational at Hells Gate State Park. But only those runners who will not compete the following weekend at the Northwest Conference championships will race at the LCSC Invite.
