WILLAMETTE MISSION STATE PARK, Ore. - Whitworth University took third place in the men's competition at the Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships behind the All-NWC performance of Nick Gallagher (Bedford, Iowa), while the Pirate women finished tied for fifth overall.
Gallagher finished fourth overall in the men's race, running the 8 kilometer course in 25:19.98. Tristan Kuntson-Lombardo of Willamette won the race in 25:00.34. Dusty Caseria (So., Bellingham, Wash.) finished 11th to earn Second Team All-NWC honors with a time of 25:35.10. Jacob Dietz (Sr., Mead, Wash.) was 22nd in 26:20.42, while Jeff Forsyth (Jr., SeaTac, Wash.) was 25th in 26:25.54. Travis Huskisson (Sr., Austin, Texas) was the Pirates' fifth runner, crossing 28th in 26:33.76. The final men's team scores were: Willamette 21, Linfield 70, Whitworth 83, Puget Sound 85, George Fox 126, Whitman 153, Lewis & Clark 183, Pacific Lutheran 251, Pacific 272. Jo E Mayer (So., Spokane, Wash.) earned Second Team All-NWC when she finished 10th in the 6 kilometer women's race in 22:08.66. Sarah Zerzan of Willamette, the defending NWC and NCAA Division III champion, won in a time of 20:36.01. Sara Wrightman (Fr., Bend, Ore.) and Gillian Goodrich (So., Bozeman, Mont.) finished in 32nd (23:25.44) and 33rd (23:25.80) places, respectively. Kaitlin Hildebrand (So., Gig Harbor, Wash.) was 35th in 23:26.23, while Emily Morehouse (So., Grants Pass, Ore.) rounded out the Whitworth scoring in 38th place (23:31.72). The final team scores in the women's competition were: Willamette 39, Puget Sound 58, Lewis & Clark 121, Whitman 131, Whitworth and Pacific Lutheran 140, Linfield 143, George Fox 184 and Pacific 222. The Pirate runners will return to action in two weeks at the NCAA Division III West Regionals on Nov. 10 at McIvor Park in Estacada, Oregon.
