TACOMA, Wash. -- Whitworth University cross country teams raced to second place finishes at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational on Saturday at the PLU golf course. Western Oregon won both events. Click here for men's results. Click here for women's results.
Nick Gallagher (So., Bedford, Iowa) led the Whitworth men with a 3rd place finish, running the eight kilometer course in 25:59.51. Aaron Jenkins (Fr., Pocatello, Idaho) was 8th with a time of 26:11.60, while Dusty Caseria (Jr., Bellingham, Wash.) was 10th in 26:21.59, giving the Pirates three runners among the top ten finishers. Emmanuel Bofa (So., Puyallup, Wash.) was 13th in 26:43.53, and Jeff Forsyth (Sr., SeaTac, Wash.) finished 15th in 26:49.03 to round out the Whitworth scoring. Zeke Van Patten of WOU won the race in 25:34.45. The final team scores were: Western Oregon 25, Whitworth 47, Lewis & Clark 67, Clark CC 114, Whatcom CC 138, Pacific Lutheran 144, Puget Sound 217, Green River CC 222. Joscelyn Minton of St. Martin's won the women's race with a time of 22:45.66 over six kilometers. The final women's team scores were: Western Oregon 29, Whitworth 53, Lewis & Clark 69, St. Martin's 111, Pacific Lutheran 126, Clark CC 169, Puget Sound 189. Dana Misterek (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wash.) led the Whitworth women with a 6th place finish, running the course in 23:06.90. Jenna Cunningham (Sr., Central Point, Ore.) followed in 10th place with a time of 23:24.09, while Kathryn Williams (Fr., Santiago, Chile) was 11th in 23:26.75. Jo E. Mayer (Jr., Spokane, Wash.) was next for the Bucs in 12th place with a time of 23:27.86 and Tonya Turner (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) was 14th in 23:35.83 to round out the Whitworth scoring. There were 77 finishers in the women's competition. Whitworth will stay in Spokane next week to compete at the Big Foot Invitational on the campus of Spokane Falls Community College.
