Whitworth Men finish 7th SALEM, Ore. -- Dana Misterek finished fifth in a field of more than 200 runners to lead the Whitworth University women to a fourth place team finish at the Willamette University Charles Bowles Invitational on Saturday morning at Bush Pasture Park. The Pirate men took seventh overall.
Misterek took fifth in the five kilometer run with a time of 17:51.13 in the Cardinal heat, which included all NCAA member schools in all divisions. Teegan Schoch of University of Idaho was the winner with a time of 17:26.92. Tonya Turner added a 12th place finish in 18:07.09 to give the Pirates two high scorers in the race. Joy Shufeldt was 27th in 18:21.99, while Kathryn Williams was 33rd in 18:27.13. Kaitlin Hildebrand finished 75th in 18:59.02. NCAA Division II power Chico State won the meet with 43 points. Augustana (S.D.), another NCAA DII school, was second in 114. Idaho was third (116) and Whitworth was fourth with 142. The next NCAA DIII school was Whitman in 6th with 177. There were 19 schools in the race. Nick Gallagher was the top Whitworth finisher on the men's side, taking 28th place over the 8 kilometer course with a time of 25:03.01. Michael Wickman of Chico won in 24:08.06. Dusty Caseria finished 50th with a time of 25:37.35. Aaron Jenkins (25:40.17) and Trevor Berrian (25:41.63) finished in 58th and 59th, respectively. Tyler Dudley was 64th in 25:44.58. Chico State also won the men's meet with 45 points, while Boise State was second with 52 points. Host Willamette was third with 113 points. Whitworth's seventh place finish came with a score of 237. There were 19 teams in the men's meet.
