SPOKANE, Wash. -- Thirteen Whitworth College football players have been named to the 2005 All-Northwest Conference football team, and four others received honorable mention, according to the list released yesterday by the Northwest Conference.

Seven Pirates were named First Team All-NWC, while six others were chosen on the Second Team. The group led the Pirates to a 5-3 record this season and a 2-2 mark in the NWC (a game with Lewis & Clark was cancelled before the season started).

There were four players chosen to the First Team offense. Joel Clark (Jr., Spokane, Wash. - Mt. Spokane) was one two quarterbacks named. He had a record-setting year at Whitworth, completing 150 of 235 passes (63.8%) for 2,234 yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Allan also broke a long-standing school record when he caught 15 touchdown passes this year. The previous record for touchdown receptions was 13, set by Doug Long in 1976. Allan's total also ties the school record for overall touchdowns in a season with John Murio, who also scored 15 touchdowns in 1961. Chris Stewart (Sr., OT, Spokane, Wash. - North Central) also made his first appearance on the First Team. He was a key component on an offensive line that allowed the Pirates to lead the NWC in total offense, averaging 186 yards rushing per game to go along with 287 yards passing per contest.
