SPOKANE, Wash. -- Four Whitworth College football players have been named to Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division III 2005 West Region team. Tight end Michael Allan (Jr., Bellevue, Wash. - Interlake) was named to the First Team offense, while Ryan Marshall (So., DB, Salem, Ore. - Sprague) was named to the First Team defense. Austin Richard (Sr., Seattle, Wash. - Blanchet) was a Third Team defensive selection. And Joel Clark (Jr., QB, Spokane, Wash. - Mt. Spokane) was a Third Team offensive choice. The four led the Pirates to a 5-3 record this season and a third place finish in the Northwest Conference. All four had previously been named All-Northwest Conference.
Allan also broke a long-standing school record when he caught 15 touchdown passes this year. The previous record for touchdown receptions was 13, set by Doug Long in 1976. Allan's total also ties the school record for overall touchdowns in a season with John Murio, who also scored 15 touchdowns in 1961. Allan caught 36 passes for 693 yards, leading the NWC in yards per catch (19.2). Marshall led the Northwest Conference in interceptions (six) and total passes defended (17) to become at corner back. He finished the year with 35 tackles, including three for loss. Richard had 40 tackles, including six for losses of 22 yards from his nose tackle position. Clark completed 150 of 235 passes (63.8%) for 2,234 yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His single season touchdown total breaks the previous school record of 26, set by Denny Spurlock in 1961. In addition, he ran for 434 yards and four more touchdowns. His total offense of 2, 668 is the second highest single season figure in school history. Click
