ATHERTON, Calif. -- Michael Allan set a school record for career touchdown receptions and Whitworth's defense held Menlo to a single score as the visiting Pirates defeated the Oaks 26-7 in a Northwest Conference football game on Saturday afternoon at Connor Field.

Allan caught his 25th career touchdown pass

Allan caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Joel Clark with 1:48 left in the first quarter, lifting Whitworth (7-0 overall, 3-0 NWC) to a 10-0 lead. It was Allan's 25 touchdown reception of his career, beating the previous record of 24 he shared with former Pirate player and coach Sam Adams.

The Whitworth defense limited Menlo to 202 total yards and one touchdown. The Pirates have given up only two total touchdowns in the last 14 quarters of play. Phil Entel returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and was credited with a touchdown saving tackle on the Pirates' one yard line on the final play of the first half.

Casey Clifton led the Pirates with eight tackles and had several QB hurries. Greg Caster had seven solo stops and Tyler Hall finished with six tackles and a QB sack.

Cam Collings kicked a 33 yard field goal to complete the Pirates' opening possession, then added a 38 yard field goal with just over five minutes left in the first half, giving the Bucs a 13-0 lead.

Entel returned the INT
70 yards for a score

Menlo (3-4, 1-3) scored on a two play drive to open the second half and gain momentum. Tau Faumuina appeared to be stopped for a short gain before breaking through the pile of bodies for a 48 yard run to the Pirates' ten yard line. Jihad Mahasin scored on the next play to pull the Oaks to within 13-7.

After Menlo forced a Whitworth punt, Entel grabbed a tipped pass and raced 70 yards untouched up the right sideline to steal momentum back toward Whitworth. The Oaks did not threaten the Pirates' endzone again.

Clark passed to Kyle Havercroft for a 27 yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Collings' kick was blocked, the first time this season he has not converted an extra point.

Clark completed 19 of 33 passes for 255 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Steve Silva caught eight passes for 83 yards, while Allan finished with four catches for 60 yards and a score. The Pirate rushing game was held to 63 yards on 32 carries, including two sacks of Clark for 26 yards.

Menlo got 77 yards rushing from Faumuina. Starting QB Gregg Parker completed 8 of 17 passes for 43 yards with one interception. Back up Adam Hazel was 5 of 12 for 26 yards. Kevin Estes caught four passes for 29 yards. Kevin Lyle returned an interception 41 yards just before halftime, but the Oaks were stopped on the Pirates' one yard line just as time expired.

Whitworth is 7-0 for the first time since the 1960 team went 9-0 during the regular season. The 11th-ranked Pirates host Willamette next Saturday in the Pine Bowl. Menlo travels to McMinnville, Oregon to take on 16th-ranked Linfield.
