SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth University has five players, four of them repeat winners, named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division football team, which was published today.

Greg Caster (Sr., LB, Sherwood, Ore. - Sherwood), Peter Clark (Sr., DE, Spokane, Wash. - Mead), Marc Grow (Sr., LB, Warden, Wash. - Warden), Dan Sanders (Jr., OL, Valleyford, Wash. - Freeman) and Jay Tully (Sr., DB, Spokane, Wash. - Mead) are part of the 27-player team. All but Sanders are repeat winners from 2006.

Caster is a business management major with a 3.66 grade point average. He leads the team in total tackles this season with 67, including ten for losses of 39 yards. He has been responsible for four fumbles in 2007 (three recovered, one forced).

Clark is an athletic training, health and fitness major with a 3.47 GPA. He has 31 tackles with one interception and one fumble recovery this year.

Grow is an accounting major with a 3.78 GPA. He is third on the team in tackles, but leads the squad in tackles for loss (12, -64 yards) and sacks (7.5, -51 yards).

Sanders is a computer science and math major with a 3.98 GPA. He starts at right tackle for an offense that averages more than 230 rushing yards and 383 total yards per game.

Tully is an education major with a 3.49 GPA. He is second on the team in tackles this season with 66 and has four pass interceptions.

This group has helped lead the Pirates to a second straight NWC title, a 7-2 record and a top 20 ranking (D3football.com) heading into the regular season finale at Puget Sound on Saturday.

The Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing.

All five players are now candidates for CoSIDA's College Division Academic All-America football team.
