Anderson's Six Touchdowns Are Second Highest NW Total

Nov. 2, 2008

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Adam Anderson's six touchdown carries in Saturday's 40-29 come-from-behind win at Pacific Lutheran is the second highest total in the history of Northwest small college football. His total trails only Rory Lee's seven touchdowns for Puget Sound in a win over Menlo in 2006.

Anderson (Jr., Elk, Wash. - Univ. of Idaho / Riverside HS) moved past the previous second highest number of five rushing touchdowns in a game shared by Dan Ruhl of Lewis & Clark (1991 vs. Willamette), Griff Yates of Southern Oregon (1998 vs. PLU), Dusty McGrorty of SOU (2001 vs. Azusa Pacific) and David Russell of Linfield (2002 vs. Wartburg).

Anderson ran 31 times for a career high 217 yards. He scored three times in the second quarter, once in the third and two more times in the fourth quarter to help rally the Pirates from a 29-21 third quarter deficit.

He has broken several Whitworth records this season already, including touchdowns scored in a season (he has 22), points scored in a season (134), all-purpose yards in a season (1,977), all-purpose yards in a game (324 at Chapman).

The Pirates (5-3 overall, 3-2 NWC) will host Lewis & Clark (1-6, 0-4) next Saturday in the final game of the 2008 season. Anderson is within reach of Damian Putney's single season rushing yardage record of 1,293 yards, set in 1999.

The Northwest small college record book has been compiled by Bob Guptill, the information director for the Great Northwest Athletics Conference. Gutpill, who was the information director for the old Columbia Football Association throughout its existance, compiles the record book for all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools in Washington and Oregon.
