Golfers Aim for Solid Finish at NWC Tournament
April 20 , 2006

The Whitworth golf teams head into this weekend's Northwest Conference tournaments playing very well. The men are aiming at repeating as NWC champions, while the women hope to finish as high in the standings as possible. The tournaments will take place at Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters, Oregon.

The women's tournament kicks off with 18 holes on Saturday, with the first tee times at 1:00 pm. Sunday's round of 18 begins at 9:00 am. Kelli Parker and Kristin Watts have each posted top-five individual finishes during tournaments this spring. Jori Turner and Bekah List turned out for the team after the completion of swimming season and have given the Pirates a full squad of four players.

The men's team is in good shape to defend its NWC title. This season the championship is determined 25% by the NWC Fall Classic and 25% by the NWC Spring Classic. The final 50% is decided at the NWC tournament. Based on the fall and spring results, the Pirates have a 3.5 point lead over Linfield and a 4.5 point lead over Pacific Lutheran. Linfield would have to finish two places ahead of Whitworth in the NWC tournament standings. Jordan Carter has won both of the individual titles in the fall and spring classics and is a strong favorite in this tournament. Andrew Parrott has also been an individual winner for the Bucs this spring. Sean Thompson, Colin Fling, Bobby Elder and James Dykes are all capable of shooting low scores as well.

The men will play one round of 18 holes on Sunday, beginning at 11:00 am. Two rounds of 18 are scheduled for Monday, beginning at 9:00 am.
