The Whitworth women's golf team, only a rumor early in the school year, finished 7th at the Northwest Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon, an accomplishment in itself. Down to only two golfers in the fall, Whitworth looked like it would not have a full squad for the spring half of the season. But Jorie Turner and Bekah List, members of the Pirate swimming team with no previous competitive golf experience, joined Kelli Parker and Kristin Watts to give Whitworth the required four golfers. The Pirates finished with a team score of 878, 61 strokes behind sixth place Whitman. Pacific won its third consecutive NWC title. Parker had a solid tournament, shooting 93 and 89 for a two round total of 182 at the tough Aspen Lakes course in Sisters, Oregon. Watts dropped ten strokes between the first and second rounds, finishing with a score of 101-91 - 192. Turner and List showed dramatic improvement over the course of the spring. Turner shot 248 and List's score was 256. Whitney Ueno of Willamette won the individual title with a score of 155. Go to Athletics Home Page > Golf > Sports Releases > |
