Whitworth Women Take Second at Willamette Invite

WOODBURN, Ore. - Whitworth's women's golf team continued to show strong improvement this spring as the Pirates finished second in the team standings at the Willamette Invitational, hosted at the OGA course.

The team, currently comprised of four freshmen, moved up from third place after the first 18 holes to finish with a 36-hole score of 362-352 - 714.

Krystal Pitkonen finished fourth individually with a score of 85-83 - 168. Alicia Bratlien tied for sixth after she shot 87-85 - 172. Mariesa Stombaugh improved by 12 strokes from the first round to the second round (94-82 - 176) and Rachel Dubes totaled 96-102 - 198.

The Pirate women will compete next at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on March 31 and April 1 at Oakbrook GC in Tacoma. The spring classic will count one quarter toward the overall NWC standings for 2006-2007, as did the NWC Fall Classic - where the women finished 4th.
