FISHERS, Ind. - Whitworth is in 14th place after the first day of competition today at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. The Pirates posted a team score of 313 at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.
Andrew Parrott (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) shot a 74 (two over par) to lead Whitworth. He is currently tied for 9th place individually with 12 other players. Steven Johnson (So., Marysville, Wash.) posted a 78, Jordan Carter (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) shot 79 and Sean Thompson (Jr., Veradale, Wash.) carded an 82 for the Pirate team total of 313. Pat Dorsing's (Fr., Royal City, Wash.) score was 89. Whitworth is competing in its first NCAA Division III tournament. The Pirates need to finish among the top 23 teams after Wednesday's round to make the cut to play on Thursday and Friday. Whitworth will tee off at Prairie View GC at Carmel, Indiana beginning at 8:15 a.m. tomorrow. Rhodes (Tenn.) leads the tournament with a score of 299 after the first day. St. John's (Minn.) is second (300). Defending champion Nebraska Wesleyan is one stroke ahead of Whitworth. Results are available at NCAAsports.com and Golfstat.com.
