CARMEL, Ind. - Whitworth has made the team cut at its first NCAA Division III men's golf tournament, placing 19th after the second day of competition. The top 23 teams advance to the final two rounds of the tournament.
The Pirates struggled to a team round of 326 today at Prairie View Golf Course. Steven Johnson (So., Marysville, Wash.) shot his second straight score of 78 (6 over par), while Andrew Parrott (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) carded a 79 to lead Whitworth. Parrott is currently tied for 19th place individually with a two day score of 153 (+9), while Johnson is tied for 39th (156). Sean Thompson (Jr., Veradale, Wash.) shot an 8-over 80, while both Jordan Carter (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) and Pat Dorsing (Fr., Royal City, Wash.) struggled to a round of 89. Whitworth is competing in its first NCAA Division III tournament. The Pirates will play their final two rounds of the tournament at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Indiana, the same course the team shot a score of 313 on Tuesday. Fifteen of the teams that made the cut into Thursday and Friday shot the highest of their two team scores at Prairie View. St. John's (Minn.) has taken over the team lead (600), nine strokes ahead of Ohio Wesleyan (609). Whitworth is tied for 19th with LaGrange (Ga.) and Susquehanna (Pa.) with two day scores of 639.
