Parrott Climbs Leaderboard, Whitworth Moves Up to 18th

FISHERS, Ind. - Whitworth's Andrew Parrott climbed into contention for a top ten individual finish and the Pirates moved up to 18th in the team standings after today's third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf championships at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.

Parrott is tied for 11th

Parrott (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) shot a two-over 74 for a three round total of 227 (+11). He is tied with Rizal Amin of La Verne for 11th in the individual tournament after moving up from a tie for 19th after yesterday's round. It is the second time Parrott has fired a 74 on the Hawthorns course this week.

Whitworth posted a score of 315 today for a three day total of 954 (+90). The Pirates, now alone in 18th place, moved up from a three-way tie for 19th after yesterday's round.

Steven Johnson (So., Marysville, Wash.) also had another strong round, carding a 76 (+4) for a three-round total of 232 (+16). He is tied for 25th overall after starting the day tied for 39th.

Whitworth's other three players struggled in today's round. Jordan Carter (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) shot an 82 (+10) for a three day total of 250. Pat Dorsing (Fr., Royal City, Wash.) was +11 today (83) for his total of 261, while Sean Thompson (Jr., Veradale, Wash.) shot an 85 (+13) for a three round total of 247.

Whitworth is competing in its first NCAA Division III tournament. The Pirates will play their final round of the tournament at Hawthorns tomorrow. After today's afternoon tee-times, Whitworth's players will get early morning starts tomorrow, beginning at 8:20 a.m. (CDT).

St. John's (Minn.) extended its team lead to 16 strokes ahead of ahead of La Verne (901 - 917), which moved up from fourth place after yesterday.
