FISHERS, Ind. - Perhaps not ending with the upswing the team had hoped for, Whitworth finished its first trip to the NCAA Division III men's golf tournament in 23rd place after posting a team score of 327 in today's final round at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.

Parrott finished
tied for 19th

The Pirates four day team score was 1281, five strokes behind Salem State for 22nd. Whitworth began the day in 18th place, but the squad posted its highest team score of the four-day event (313-326-315-327 - 1281).

Andrew Parrott (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) shot an 8-over 80 for a tournament total of 307 (+19). He tied for 19th in the final individual tournament standings.

Steven Johnson (So., Marysville, Wash.) finished the tournament tied for 52nd place after his round of 11-over 83 today. His total score was 315 (+27).

Jordan Carter (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) had the day's best round for Whitworth with a 79 (+7). He finished tied for 107th with a total score of 329 (+41). St. John's (Minn.) held the lead it grabbed after the second round to claim the national team title.

Whitworth, which has won three straight Northwest Conference titles in only four seasons since the school revived the team as a varsity program, returns intact as a squad in 2007-08. The Pirates hope to take the lessons learned this spring and put them to good use for a return trip to the NCAA tournament. The location of next year's championship is still to be determined.
