SISTERS, Ore. - Krystal Pitkonen earned All-Northwest Conference honors, leading Whitworth University to a second place finish at the 2008 Northwest Conference golf tournament at Aspen Lakes Golf Course. By bouncing back from the disappointing fifth place result at the NWC Spring Classic, the Pirates moved up from a tie for third in the NWC standings to second place in the final tally.

The final team scores at the NWC Tournament were: Pacific 343-339 682, Whitworth 350-352 702, Puget Sound 358-354 712, Linfield 363-350 713, George Fox 354-368 722, Pacific Lutheran 394 376 770, Willamette 397-404 801. Lewis & Clark did not have enough competitors to field a team score, and Whitman chose not to participate. Pitkonen earned her All-NWC honor by finishing fifth overall with a total of 84-86 - 170. Pitkonen finished in 10th place last season as a freshman. Whitney Ueno of Willamette was the individual medalist with a final tally of 79-82 - 161 to win by five strokes. Alicia Bratlien, who earned All-NWC honors as a freshman last year, finished tied for eighth place after shooting 85-91 - 176. She tied with teammate Kaylin Carlson, whose total was 87-89 - 176. Sophie Sestero and Mariesa Stombaugh came through with strong second day scores, shooting 94-89 - 183 and 99-88 - 187, respectively. Rachel Dubes finished with a total of 99-98 - 197. The final Northwest Conference standings are based on the cumulative results of the NWC Fall Classic (25%), NWC Spring Classic (25%) and NWC Tournament (50%). After a strong second place showing at the NWC Fall Classic, the Pirates slipped to fifth place at the NWC Spring Classic. But with the strong rebound this weekend, the Pirates finish in second place in the final NWC standings. The final standings are:
