LAKEWOOD, Wash. - The Whitworth University men's and women's golf teams came away from the 2007 North Division Fall Classic with a pair of victories, a first for the Pirate golf program.
The Whitworth men, three time defending NWC champions, won with a score of 155-303 - 458 (the first day was shortened to nine holes by heavy rain) at Oakbrook Country Club. Puget Sound followed with 158-309 - 467, then Pacific Lutheran (160-312 - 472), then Whitman (171-339 - 510). Jordan Carter was the medalist with a score of 37-73 - 110. Andrew Parrott (37-76 - 113) and James Dykes (42-73 - 115) were fourth and fifth individually. The Pirate women, coming off of the first team victory in school history the weekend before at Centralia, Washington, won with a score of 173-347 - 520. Krystal Pitkonen shot 45-84 - 129 to finish second. Alicia Bratlien (42-88 - 130) and Mariesa Stombaugh (44-86 - 130) tied for third. The final women's team scores were: Whitworth 520, Puget Sound 181-360 - 541, Pacific Lutheran 193-378 - 571, Whitman incomplete. Whitworth's teams will now turn their attention to the NWC Fall Classic events in two weeks. The Fall Classics are conference-wide competitions that will determine one-fourth of the final standings in the NWC. In addition, the individual medalists automatically earn a place on the final All-NWC teams. The women's Fall Classic will be hosted by Whitman at Wildhorse Resort GC in Pendleton, Oregon on Saturday and Sunday - October 20 and 21. Whitworth will host the men's Fall Classic at Spokane Country Club on Sunday, October 21 and Monday, October 22. Tee times are 11:30 am on Sunday and 9:00 am on Monday.
