Berentson Tallies PK for the Pirates
WHEATON, Ill. - Katelyn Kishkunas converted a penalty kick in the 66th minute to lift 12th-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) to a 2-1 win over visiting Whitworth on Thursday evening in the opening match of the Bob Baptista Invitational. The Thunder controlled the second half after an evenly played first period. Wheaton outshot Whitworth 25-14 in the game with most of the damage (17-7) coming in the second half. Sarah Berentson tied the game for the Pirates in the first half when she converted a penalty kick in the 36th minute, scoring Whitworth's first goal of the season. Cory Druffel worked free in the box and drew the foul that led to the PK. Ali Kopelman gave the Thunder an early lead when she converted a pass from Keri Shannon in the 18th minute of the match. Callie Bergstrom made six saves in goal for the Pirates, while Wheaton's Hilary Barreto made four stops. Whitworth, playing the toughest schedule of the three-match Baptista Invitational, will turn around quickly and take on University of Dubuque on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. (CDT).
