Three Pirates Earn Academic All-District Honors

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Three Whitworth College men's soccer players have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII College Division First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Trevor Osborne (Sr., D, Seattle, Wash. - Mt. Rainier), Adam Loeffler (Jr., D, White Center, Wash. - Evergreen) and Chris Johnson (Sr., F, Spokane, Wash. - St. George's) were all named to the team. Whitworth and Seattle University each had three players named to the 11-member team.

Osborne and Loeffler are partners on a Whitworth defensive line that has limited Northwest Conference opponents to 4.5 shots on goal per match and allowed only 0.97 goals per contest. Osborne has a 3.71 grade point average in business management. He has been selected as Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week twice, on September 19th and October 31st. Loeffler has a 3.72 GPA in physics. He was the NWC Defensive Player of the Week on October 17th.

Chris Johnson is third on the team this season in goals scored with six. He has a 3.59 GPA in business management.

The trio have all played key roles in Whitworth's 2005 Northwest Conference title. The Pirates are 15-1-1 overall and 12-0-1 in the NWC heading into the regular season finale at Whitman College.

All three students will now be submitted as candidates for CoSIDA's Academic All-American College Division team.

The Academic All-District teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing.
