SPOKANE, Wash. -- On the heels of a conference championship, Whitworth College placed six players on the 2005 All-Northwest Conference men's soccer team. Led by Defensive Player of the Year Todd Sabrowski, three men were named to the First Team and three others named to the Second Team. Sabrowski (Sr., D, Oregon City, Ore. - Oregon City) was joined on the First Team by Niko Varlamos (Jr., F, Edmonds, Wash. - King's) and Ali Seyedali (Jr., MF, Kirkland, Wash. - Lake Washington). Trevor Osborne (Sr., D, Seattle, Wash. - Mt. Rainier), Skye Henderson (So., MF, Spokane, Wash. - Lewis & Clark) and Jonathan Carlson (Sr., F, Camas, Wash. - Camas) were named to the Second Team. Sabrowski was named NWC Defensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row and is now a three-time First Team All-NWC selection. He has nine goals and six assists this season. He is tied for fourth in the NWC in total points (24). Varlamos is making his second straight appearance on the First Team and has led the Pirates in goals scored for the second season in a row with 12. He ranks third in the NWC in goals scored and goals per game. Seyedali has been chosen to the First Team for the first time, after earning Second Team honors last year. He leads the NWC in assists (13) and game-winning goals (5).
Osborne has played center back on a Pirate defense that has limited opponents to 4.4 shots on goal and 0.92 goals per match. He leads the team in minutes played (1,569). Henderson has scored four goals and added a pair of assists this season from his midfield position. He was one of only three sophomores to make the All-NWC team. Carlson finished with four goals and eight assists this season, ranking fourth in the NWC in assists. He was selected to the team for the second year in a row. The six have all played key roles in Whitworth's 2005 Northwest Conference title. The Pirates are 16-1-1 overall and 13-0-1 in the NWC and ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division III men's poll.
