Pirates Receive Bye, Will Host Second Round Match

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth College has been awarded a first round bye in the 2005 NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament and will host a second round match on Saturday, November 12th.

The Pirates will host the winner of a first round match between UC-Santa Cruz and University of Redlands. UCSC is an independent and finished the season with a 17-1 record. Redlands (16-2-2) won its fifth consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference title and will host the first round match on Wednesday afternoon.

Whitworth (16-1-1) won its second consecutive Northwest Conference title this fall. The Pirates are ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division III Men's Soccer poll.

Whitworth and Redlands met in the 2005 season opener for both schools in a tournament at Linfield College. The Pirates defeated the Bulldogs 3-1.

Admission will be $5 for adults, $3 for students/children and all seating is general admission.
