Three Pirates Earn Scholar All-America Honors
Five Others Earn All-Far West Region

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Three Whitworth College men's soccer players have been named to the 2005 NSCAA/adidas Men's College Scholar All-America Team, as announced yesterday by the National Soccer Coaches of America.

Todd Sabrowski (Sr., D, Oregon City, Ore. - Oregon City) and Ali Seyedali (Jr., MF, Redmond, Wash. - Lake Washington) were named to the First Team, while Jon Carlson (Sr., F, Camas, Wash. - Camas) was selected to the Third Team.

To be eligible for consideration, a player must be at least a junior in academic standing, have no less than a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start at least 50 percent of the team's games and be nominated by an NSCAA member coach. The NSCAA Scholar All-American team is not broken up by collegiate divisions, but includes players from every level of collegiate competition.

Sabrowski was named NWC Defensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row. He finished the year with 11 goals and six assists. He retires as the all-time leader at Whitworth in career assists (34) and second in total points (88). Over the course of his four seasons at Whitworth, the Pirates have won two Northwest Conference titles and have a record of 59-17-4. He has a GPA of 3.30 in business management.

Seyedali was been chosen to the NSCAA team for the first time, after earning First Team All-NWC honors. He led the NWC in assists (13) and game-winning goals (5). He has the second highest all-time assist total at Whitworth with 24. Seyedali's GPA of 3.40 is in biology.

Carlson finished with four goals and ten assists this season, ranking fourth in the NWC in assists. He was selected to the All-Final Four team in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The trio all played key roles in Whitworth's 2005 Northwest Conference title and run to the NCAA Division III Final Four. The Pirates finished 19-2-1 overall and 13-0-1 in the NWC. Whitworth set school records for total wins, conference wins and final winning percentage (.886).

All three students are now invited to the NSCAA All-America luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, January 21, as part of the 2006 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.

The NSCAA Scholar All-Region teams were also announced. In addition to the three players listed above, five other Pirates were named to the Scholar All-Far West Region Second Team. Kevin Bostock (Jr., GK, Whitefish, Mont. - Whitefish), Trevor Osborne (Sr., D, Seattle, Wash. - Mt. Rainier), Adam Loeffler (Jr., D, White Center, Wash. - Evergreen), Evan Hendrickson (Sr., MF, Auburn, Wash. - Auburn) and Sean Lambrecht (Jr., MF, Sammamish, Wash. - Skyline) were named to the Far West team.

Bostock, who finished with a 1.01 goals against average this year, has a 3.5 GPA in political science. Osborne, who anchored Whitworth's defense as a center-back while leading the team in minutes played, has a 3.71 GPA in business management. Loeffler, who also was part of Whitworth's strong defense this fall, has a 3.72 GPA in physics. Hendrickson, who had five goals and three assists, has a 3.3 GPA in business management. Lambrecht, who had a goal and three assists, has a 3.3 GPA in business management.
