Whitworth 3, Wartburg 1: Complete box score and play by play

Trinity 3, Stevens Inst. 1: Complete box score and play by play

SPOKANE, Wash.- Whitworth College and Trinity University, the top two seeds in their quarter bracket of the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament, will meet one another on Sunday afternoon to decide one berth to the final four after each won in today's Sectional Semifinals at Whitworth Soccer Field. The host Pirates defeated Wartburg College (Iowa) 3-0 in the first match, while Trinity came from behind to defeat Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) 3-1 in the second contest.

Whitworth 3, Wartburg 0
Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year Todd Sabrowski returned to the lineup for Whitworth after missing last weekend's second round match with Redlands due to a hip pointer. Sabrowski scored one goal and set up another to led the Pirates past the Knights 3-0.

Ali Seyedali got Whitworth (18-1-1) on the board in the 30th minute when he scored on a free kick from just outside the top of the keeper box. It was his seventh goal of the season.

Ten minutes later Sabrowski was taken down in the keeper box, drawing a penalty kick. Evan Hendrickson took the kick after Seyedali was sent to the Pirate sideline with blood on his uniform. Hendrickson's shot to Matt Shephard's left was nearly stopped by the Wartburg keeper, but the ball trickled into the net.

Sabrowski, playing up front for the first time this season, scored the final goal of the match in the 75th minute when he stole the ball from a Wartburg defender and fired past Shephard into the upper left corner.

Scott Hill had Wartburg's (18-4-1) best shot at a goal with 20 minutes to play, but his laser from 25 yards was saved over the top of the bar by Whitworth's Kevin Bostock.

The Pirates finished with a 19-13 edge in shots, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. Wartburg had five corner kicks to Whitworth's three.

Shephard finished with three saves for the Knights, while Bostock made two stops for Whitworth.

Trinity 3, Stevens 1
The Tigers (19-1-1) overcame a sluggish first half to defeat the Ducks (16-4-2) with a three goal second half flurry.

Stevens got three shots on goal in the first half, and scored in the 36th minute when Chris McGreevy fired back a clear attempt by Trinity keeper Matt Handy after a corner kick from Craig Moquin

Still down 1-0 in the 67th minute, Trinity evened the score when Patrick Floeck crossed from the right side to Tyrone Petrakis, who beat Stevens keeper Chris Celentano to his right. Less than a minute and a half later, Brian Reeves intercepted a Ducks' clear attempt on the left side of the box, beat the defender to the inside and fired past Celentano to make the score 2-1.

The Tigers picked up and insurance goal in the 78th minute when Petrakis shot the ball on a breakaway and had it bounce off of Celentano right back to him and he put it right back in the net.

Trinity outshot Stevens 19-7 in the match, 11-4 in the second half. The shots on goal were 4-4. Handy made three saves for the Tigers, while Celentano made one stop for the Ducks.

Stevens came into the match having not allowed a goal since October 15th to Kings Point, a string of nine straight games.

Sunday's sectional final will begin at 1:00 pm.
