TACOMA, Wash. - Whitworth College tallied two early goals and made them stand up in a key 2-1 win at University of Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at East Athletic Field.

Whitworth, ranked 11th in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division III poll, improved to 7-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the NWC. The Loggers suffered their first loss of the season (3-1-2, 2-1-1).

Skye Henderson got the Pirates on the scoreboard only 2:20 into the match, taking a crossing pass from Jon Carlson and beating Logger keeper Brian Lawson to the right side.

A UPS penalty and two Logger yellow cards led to a penalty kick for Sean Lambrecht at 22:54 and he converted to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

UPS scored its only goal on a penalty kick as well, Josh Hedrick converting at 61:23. But the Loggers would never gain the game-tying score.

Kevin Bostock earned the win in goal for Whitworth, making two saves. Lawson made one save for UPS.

Whitworth will play again in Tacoma on Sunday, at Pacific Lutheran University beginning at 2:30 pm.
