Whitworth Rolls Past Willamette

SPOKANE, Wash. - Setting a team record for most goals scored on consecutive days against Northwest Conference opponents, Whitworth College defeated visiting Willamette University 6-0 in a men's NWC match on Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

Ali Seyedali assisted on the first two goals

Combined with Saturday's 7-0 win over George Fox, the 10th-ranked Pirates scored 13 goals on consecutive day's against NWC opponents. The previous high was ten. Whitworth improved to 11-1-1 overall and 8-0-1 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 3-10, 1-8.

Ali Seyedali scored twice in the first half for the Pirates, once on a free kick for the Bucs' first goal (13:18) and later finishing a crossing pass from Chris Johnson (24:46) to make the score 4-0. Niko Varlamos also scored twice to increase his season goal total to eight. He scored once in each half. Evan Hendrickson and Jordan Lister scored the Pirates' other goals.

Whitworth peppered the Willamette net with 22 shots on goal, and 38 total shots. Dane Meier made 16 saves for the Bearcats. Willamette managed five shots, only two of which were on goal. Scott Barnam, playing the first 80 minutes, made one save for the Pirates. Lance Beck stopped the other shot.

With the win, Whitworth also completed a season sweep of the Bearcats.

Whitworth returns to action next Saturday when the Pirates play a key Northwest Conference contest at Linfield College. Next Sunday Willamette will host the University of Puget Sound in the Bearcats' next contest.
