Complete box score and play by play TACOMA, Wash. - (From PLU Sports Information Office) Pacific Lutheran battled Northwest Conference-leading Whitworth into the second overtime before the Pirates pulled out a 2-1 men's soccer victory Sunday on the PLU Field. Nike Varlamos, the 2004 NWC Offensive Player of the Year, scored on a header off a crossing pass from Ali Seyedali 33 seconds into the second overtime to give Whitworth the victory. The 11th-ranked Pirates are 5-0-1 in conference games, 8-1-1 overall. PLU slipped to 3-2 in the conference, 6-4 overall. Matt Taller broke a scoreless tie at the 63:32 mark of the second half with a shot that found the left side of the net. Justin Stevens assisted on the play. Todd Sabrowski, the 2004 NWC Defensive Player of the Year, tied the score with 6:39 remaining in regulation. Sabrowski worked his way past a Lute defender on the left side and scored from about 15 yards out. The Pirates had an opportunity to win the game in the first overtime when a foul was called on PLU goalkeeper Jared Harman. Whitworth was awarded a penalty kick, but Harman made a diving save of Skye Henderson's shot towards the right side of the goal. The Lutes also had a chance to win the game in the first overtime on Derek Karamatic's shot from inside the goalkeeper box with about two minutes left. Goalkeeper Kevin Bostock made the big save for the Pirates. Whitworth will return home to face Whitman College on Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm.
