Whitworth Knocks Off George Fox 3-0
September 16, 2006

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Given a week to rest and regroup after a difficult first week of the season, Whitworth opened its Northwest Conference men's soccer defense with a solid 3-0 win over visiting George Fox on Saturday afternoon behind a pair of goals from Sean Lambrecht.

Lambrecht scored twice for the Pirates

The Pirates had opened 1-2-1, playing four tough matches in six days last week. But Whitworth improved to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NWC today. George Fox suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 4-1-1, 0-1. The Pirates have not lost in their last 20 Northwest Conference matches. The last Whitworth loss in NWC play was 2-0 at George Fox on October 17, 2004.

Lambrecht scored first at 19:00 when he took a deflected shot and put the ball back in the net past Bruin keeper Kyle Putnam.

Later in the half, Chris Johnson got inside the box and played Putnam out of position before passing to Ali Seyedali for an easy goal at 40:37. It was Seyedali's first goal of the season.

Lambrecht got his third goal at 57:17 when he scored off of Caleb Barnhill's crossing pass. Lambrecht's two goals now lead the team this season.

Putnam made seven saves for the Bruins, while Whitworth's Kevin Bostock had four saves. Whitworth outshot George Fox 18-5, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal.

Whitworth will host Willamette on Sunday at 2:30 pm. George Fox will play at Whitman, also at 2:30 pm.
