Pirates Fall 1-0 at Redlands
September 6, 2006

REDLANDS, Calif. -- The University of Redlands gained a measure of revenge today, beating Whitworth 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match in muggy Southern California. The Bulldogs posted an outstanding 2005 season, giving up only 10 goals in 21 matches. But Whitworth had handed Redlands two of their three losses while scoring seven of the goals, including a 4-0 win in the NCAA tournament.

But today Ross Schunk gave the Bulldogs the only goal they would need, scoring unassisted in the 34th minute.

Skye Henderson and Curtis Flournoy each had good scoring opportunities, but Redlands keeper Andy Roraff saved both shots.

Whitworth's Kevin Bostock made four saves to keep the Pirates in the match, as Redlands outshot Whitworth 11-6, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Pirates are now 1-1 this season. Redlands improved to 3-0.

Whitworth will play again on Saturday, when the Pirates take on Concordia University in a tournament hosted by Simon Fraser in Burnaby, B.C. Whitworth will play the hosts on Sunday. Both matches begin at noon and are against NAIA opponents.
